"#MillionsMissing is a global campaign for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) health equality. Lead by #MEAction; the first global protest took place in May 2016. By September 2016, it had grown to 24 cities. On May 12th, 2017, we took to the streets again in 18 cities in seven countries to demand change. We asked for increased government funding for research, clinical trials, medical education, and public awareness."
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, Minneapolis joined over 100 cities across the globe to bring awareness, and ask for health equality. This visibility action aligned with Minnesota Governor Dayton declaring May 12th Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Day. Over 60 people with ME/CFS, caregivers, and allies attended this debut #MillionsMissing event. Steve Curry, a Solve ME/CFS Board Member, relayed his journey with ME/CFS, followed by individuals sharing stories that resonated across the group.
Shoes have been a powerful, unifying symbol for #MillionsMissing since the first global protest in 2016. Demonstrations across the world have displayed rows of shoes. These haunting images represent what people are missing from their lives due to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.
